Position Overview
Barrick's Africa & Middle East Exploration Team is seeking a highly motivated and discovery-driven Senior Exploration Geologist to support exploration activities in Saudi Arabia.
The successful candidate will assist in evaluating exploration targets, designing and implementing exploration programs, and discovering economically viable gold and copper deposits. This role offers a unique opportunity to work within the Arabian-Nubian Shield and contribute to Barrick's long-term growth strategy.
Reporting directly to the Exploration Manager, the Senior Exploration Geologist will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and global technical experts.
Key Responsibilities
Exploration Program Management
Plan, supervise, and execute exploration activities.
Manage drilling, trenching, geological mapping, geophysics, and geochemical programs.
Ensure exploration work is completed safely and efficiently.
Target Generation and Evaluation
Compile, clean, and analyze geological datasets.
Generate and prioritize exploration targets.
Conduct desktop and field-based target assessments.
Geological Modeling
Develop geological models at regional, camp, and target scales.
Interpret lithology, structure, stratigraphy, alteration, and mineralization patterns.
Support resource growth through robust geological understanding.
Technical Leadership
Promote geological best practices within exploration teams.
Mentor and develop local geologists.
Lead technical discussions and project evaluations.
Due Diligence and Growth Projects
Participate in project evaluations and acquisition reviews.
Assess technical, financial, and legislative aspects of exploration projects.
Data Management and QA/QC
Monitor quality assurance and quality control procedures.
Ensure integrity and reliability of exploration databases.
Reporting and Communication
Prepare weekly and monthly technical reports.
Deliver presentations to senior management and stakeholders.
Communicate technical information clearly and effectively.
Health, Safety & Environment
Promote Barrick's strong safety culture.
Ensure compliance with environmental and community standards.
Support the company's Zero Harm commitment.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Bachelor's Degree in Geology or Geoscience from a recognized institution.
Minimum 8 years of exploration geology experience.
Strong understanding of mineralization models and geological processes.
Experience in greenfield and brownfield exploration programs.
Excellent technical reporting and communication skills.
Ability to work within multidisciplinary exploration teams.
Preferred Qualifications
The following qualifications will be considered advantageous:
MSc or PhD in Geology, Geoscience, or related discipline.
Experience with VMS deposits.
Experience with structurally controlled gold systems.
Knowledge of Arabian-Nubian Shield geology.
Previous involvement in Tier-1 mineral discoveries.
Membership in professional geological organizations.
