Job Description
Crescent Petroleum is seeking an experienced Lead Well Planning and Operations Geologist to oversee all subsurface inputs related to:
Well design and planning
Trajectory optimization
Pore pressure prediction
Geomechanical modeling
Real-time drilling support
Geological risk management
Data quality assurance
Reservoir characterization
The successful candidate will work closely with drilling, completions, reservoir, and subsurface teams to ensure safe and efficient well delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Well Planning and Data Quality
The selected candidate will:
Review offset and analogue wells.
Conduct comprehensive QA/QC of geological and drilling datasets.
Analyze historical drilling events and non-productive time (NPT).
Identify geohazards and recommend mitigation strategies.
Evaluate data gaps and recommend acquisition programs.
Support structural interpretation and geological model updates.
Well Trajectory Design
Responsibilities include:
Developing Petrel-based geological models.
Designing deviated and horizontal wells.
Maximizing reservoir exposure.
Integrating geological uncertainties into trajectory planning.
Supporting LWD and wireline acquisition programs.
Conducting anti-collision analysis.
Ensuring compliance with pore pressure and fracture gradient constraints.
Pore Pressure and Geomechanics
The role requires expertise in:
PPFG model development and calibration.
Mud weight optimization.
Wellbore stability analysis.
Pressure compartment characterization.
Geohazard assessments.
Casing seat recommendations.
Real-time pressure monitoring and interpretation.
Operational Support
Key operational duties include:
Providing geological support during drilling operations.
Delivering real-time geological interpretations.
Supporting decision-making during active drilling campaigns.
Preparing End-of-Well Reports (EOWR).
Performing root cause analysis of drilling issues.
Participating in DWOP and stage-gate reviews.
Service Management
The successful candidate will oversee:
LWD services
Wireline services
Mudlogging services
Coring programs
Vendor management and quality assurance
Reservoir Characterization
Additional responsibilities include:
Gas ratio interpretation.
Fluid identification and reservoir evaluation.
Lithological analysis.
Cuttings descriptions.
XRD and XRF integration.
Isotope data interpretation.
Lithostratigraphic model refinement.
HSSE Responsibilities
Candidates must:
Promote Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) standards.
Ensure compliance with company and regulatory requirements.
Support environmental and safety initiatives.
Maintain safe working practices during planning and operations.
Required Qualifications
Applicants should possess:
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Geology, Geoscience, or a related discipline.
MSc or PhD preferred.
Experience
Minimum 15 years of industry experience.
Experience with international oil and gas operators preferred.
Strong exposure to fractured carbonate reservoirs.
Middle East and Iraq experience is advantageous.
